They purchased the ticket at New World Kāpiti in Paraparaumu, where a rainbow was captured in a photograph shining down about 9.45am Thursday (7.45am AEST).
The prize-winning numbers in the draw were 17, 29, 7, 19, 38, 36, with the bonus ball being number 20. The winning power ball was number 5.
Seven other Lotto players took home $125,000 after winning Lotto First Division.
Two lucky Strike players would also be celebrating after each winning $500,000 with Strike Four.
The grand winner was the 10th Powerball multi-millionaire of 2023, and the win comes almost two months after a $33.5 million Powerball prize was won by a couple from Christchurch.
