Chilly conditions forecast for Easter long weekend as cold front moves south

Aussies are in for a chilly Easter long weekend with below-average temperatures and showers tipped for much of the country.
This weekend parts of South Australia, southern Victoria, and Tasmania will bear the brunt of the cold and wet weather.
Victoria is also on track to see its coldest Easter in 80 years, with cold, wet and windy conditions expected.

Cold south-westerly winds and showers will see Melbourne only climb to a maximum of 15 degrees today.
The last time the state experienced a day that cold over the Easter period was in 1943, when the temperature only climbed to 14.3C.
The cold air is also forecast to potentially a dusting of snow on the mainland Alps.
The sun will shine in Sydney and down to Wollongong but the wind will bring down the temperature. Further north in the Lake Macquarie region there will be showers.
Large parts of Queensland will be warm and sunny.
