'Relentless rain and excessive water' blamed for floor collapse at Genesis Owusu's Enmore Theatre gig

The venue manager of Sydney's Enmore Theatre says "relentless rain and excessive water" led to the collapse of part of the floor at ARIA-winning artist Genesis Owusu's gig last night.
The carpeted floor could be seen with a significant depression but no holes as it appeared to wobble in videos uploaded to social media last night.
"There's like a real deep drop after that, so this is actually really dangerous," Owusu told his fans from the stage in a video shared by University of Sydney student newspaper Honi Soit.
"You guys are super sick, we're going to have to reschedule the show because this is like a four-metre drop."

In another video, an announcer could be heard telling the crowd "don't walk on the collapsed floor please".
Owusu, whose ARIA-winning album Smiling With No Teeth took out the prestigious Australian Music Prize hours before the show, had earlier shared how "nervous" and "excited" he was to be playing for the first time in about nine months.
"Yo we sold out the god damn Enmore Theatre and The Forum in Melbourne and the Summerhouse in Adelaide," he posted to Instagram.
"Been scrambling for the last however long so it never really sunk in but wtf."
Instead, the first night of the Australian tour was over almost before it began.
"I love you all, you guys have been amazing," Owusu said in another video shared by a fan in the crowd.
"This is really shit. You guys are f------ crazy and this shit's gonna go down in history because you guys are the f------ craziest crowd and broke the f------ Enmore in two songs."

Venue manager Century said recent heavy rain had affected the floor.
"Audience safety is a top priority at the Enmore Theatre," Century told 9news.com.au in a statement.
"Last night we made the decision to stop the Genesis Owusu show due to three piers at the point where the theatre inclines shifting underneath the carpet, creating an uneven floor.
"This occurred due to the impact of the relentless rain and excessive water inundating the suburb.
"The floor of the theatre has been assessed and remediation works have commenced.
"We have isolated the section that was affected by water and are further reinforcing the surrounding areas as a further precaution.
"We would like to thank Genesis Owusu and his touring party for working with us to ensure the safety of our patrons as a priority."
